What is it?
Detox is the removal of waste and toxins from your body. A full-body detox is part of a regular organ function already occurring in your own body, and the term “toxin” can refer to pollutants, synthetic chemicals, heavy metals, negative emotions and processed foods. Your body works around the clock continuously filtering and eliminating general waste and harmful toxins through the kidneys, liver, digestive and lymphatic system, skin and lungs.
Even body cells which continuously repair themselves are considered waste eventually, but necessary for you to function and break down nutrients for your body to use as energy. With all this activity going on, the body may get overloaded and blocked from time to time, especially when you’ve experienced trauma, stress, overdoing sports training, live in an unhealthy environment, eat processed foods, travel, overindulge in salts and sugars, going through illness, surgery and/or massive injuries.
If the excess waste is not eliminated, it can leave you feeling sluggish and can start to appear in your body in the form of fat cells like cellulite, fluid retention like oedema, inflammation like swelling and bloating and eventually have a negative effect on your emotional and energetic self. There is no need to feel shame, guilt or fear about any of this.
